Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbology and acupuncture are the two major disciplines in Traditional Chinese medicine - TCM. Although they are of the same importance in treatment aspect based on the same Traditional Chinese medicine theories, Chinese herbs are more commonly used in the treatment of internal body disharmony especially in Chinese communities like China and Hong Kong, e.g. insomnia due to disharmony between kidney and heart. Chinese herbal medicine consists of mainly plants (leaves, twigs, roots, flowers, etc.), animal parts (seashell, deer antler, etc) and mineral.

Herbs are rarely used singly because a health condition usually consists of more than one TCM disease patterns that can be treated with a single herb. Instead, combination of herbs, called herbal formulas, are used to deal with the multiple disease patterns in a clinical case of a patient.

Traditionally and still being used at present, Chinese herbal medicine is taken in decoction, powders, pills, plasters and teas. Making use of latest manufacturing technology and stricter quality control (GMP standard), Chinese herbs can now be made into herbal granules, tinctures and liquid extracts to be become a more convenient for administration.

In our centre, we suppliment our treatment with herbal granules depending on the conditions in order to achieve the best result from a treatment.
